APPLE PICKING: Los Angeles and Orange Counties

Lately, I have seen so many delicious fall apple recipes on Pinterest that I have been dying to try some out.  That got me thinking.  Why not make a day of it and pick our own apples and make the desserts even more special?

I have compiled a list of local apple orchards that encourage visitors to come experience apple picking for themselves.

You can pick a peck of pickled peppers, but did you know you can pick a peck of apples too? According to Apple Starr Orchard, a peck is 12 pounds and you can fill your bag with u-pick apples or pears. Apple Starr even has wagons to help you with your load. Some of the apples here have fancy names like Arkansas Black and Wealthy, and there are five varieties of pears to choose from as well, including both red and green Bartlett pears. A “newer” farm established in 1982, Apple Starr is 100 percent organic and a little-known secret as the location is at the very end of Julian Orchards Drive.

BOOK REVIEW: Adventures of Ai by Craig T. Bouchard | #GIVEAWAY

I don't review that many books but I have a love of children's and young adult books.  I was approached a few weeks ago to read a new on the market Young Adult book called Adventures of Ai by New York Times Bestseller, Craig T. Bouchard.

I wasn't sure what to expect for this book since I wasn't given an age range recommendation before reading.  I quickly realized that this would be a book that would probably be a good fit for the 12 and older crowd.

This book leads its readers into an adventure of Japanese cultures and legends.  What do you get when you give a dad an audience of 3 willing daughters and the world as his stage.   You get a captivating audience in the readers.  What better way to spend quality time with your young children than teaching them about the world that will one day be theirs.

RE-CAP: Lobsterfest 2014 at Ports O Call Village | @PofLALobsterfest #SanPedro

Last weekend, I was invited attend the Lobsterfest Festival in San Pedro.  Music, games, crafts, rides and of course LOBSTER!  I had walked into heaven.

My family loves lobster and it was a whole party dedicated to its buttery masterpiece!  Walking into the festival, you knew you were in the right place with 20 foot tall lobsters welcoming you.

Lobster wasn't the only thing on the menus that day and as you walked in, there were at least 20 different food stands to choose from.  There were plenty of refreshments to keep our parched throats happy as well.

Follow the sweet smell of Main lobster and you will find yourself at the lobster tents where they will crack open your lobster to maximize your eating.  My kids dug into them like they were candy!  They were SO sweet!

DVD GIVEAWAY: Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Best Friends Plus FREE Printable! | @FHEInsiders #BerryBestFriends

The Berry Sweet Smelling Strawberry Shortcake is back with an all new DVD!

Strawberry Shortcake:  Berry Best Friends is out on DVD NOW!

I think I have made it clear that we are huge Strawberry Shortcake fans and I have been excited to buy this for my daughter ever since I saw a glimpse of it at the Strawberry Shortcake Convention back in July!

It’s friends first for Strawberry Shortcake and her favorite gal pals in Berry Best Friends! When Orange Blossom’s general store overflows with a new line of fruits and veggies, she tries to handle all of the details without any help from others, and, as a result, she’s exhausted!

Strawberry is excited to be building a new marketplace, but has a tough time learning how to graciously say, “no, thank you.” Both soon learn that talking about what you need is the berry best thing to do.

When the BFFs form a new band called Strawberry and the Sweet Beats, they’re all jazzed to head out on the road...except for Orange, who is afraid to admit that she doesn’t want to leave home. Once she tells her friends how she feels, she’s ready to set out for a rockin’ good time!

PET PRODUCT REVIEW: Skin and Teeth Refreshed by VetIQ | @VetIQPets #ad

With summer came the typical skin itchies with my furbaby, Brittany.  I figured she might have fleas so I gave her flea treatments.  The flea treatments seemed to work but mostly she seemed to have dry skin so I looked around for a skin vitamin to add to her diet.

I wanted something that she would eat that I wouldn't have to hide in a treat and honestly, didn't smell like fish.  I had tried a couple skin supplements that were mostly fish oil and YUCK!  LOL

El Dorado Dog Park: Check out Long Beach's Newest Dog Playground

Smiling Dog at dog park

I know I write about things to do with my kids a lot but one kid that gets overlooked a lot is our Brittany/Golden Retriever dog, Brittany.  You may have seen her on my photos in Instagram and Facebook but she usually doesn't get much blog time.

This post is about her new favorite play park!  Did you know that El Dorado Park now has a new(ish) dog park?  It is right next to the archery range and you can see it from Spring Street.

Walking With Dinosaurs Arena Spectacular: Great Family Fun | @DinosLive #DinosLiveOC #review

We all know that dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years.  Last week, I was invited to a show that made me question whether that is true.

Walking With Dinosaurs is so realistic that you walk into the arena expecting a show where in fact it feels like you walked through a time machine.  The variety of dinosaurs showcased allowed us to get to know them as if they could walk right down the street.

The host, a paleontologist, walks us through the eras that ultimately led to their final demise.
One of the most important facts that we learned was that we are always learning new things about dinosaurs every day.  Did you know that we believe that dinosaurs are wonderful parents?  They are believed to be very protective of their young which helped keep their species going for millions of years.

Rubber Duck, Vincent Thomas Bridge, Port of LA, Waterfront

The Tall Ships Sailed into the Port of Los Angeles last week and we had an up close and personal look at these fabulous ships and their new friend the largest Rubber Duck in the World!  My family was invited to take pictures with the worlds largest Rubber Duck and we just couldn't resist!

The Rubber Duck was larger than we could have imagined with the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the background.
