Do you have a green thumb?  Do you like working with animals?

OC Fair & Event Center’s Centennial Farm Offers Urban Chickens Class Plus Other Free Gardening Classes

Costa Mesa, Calif. (September 3, 2013) – The OC Fair & Event Center’s Centennial Farm has added more free gardening classes for local green thumbs 16 and older. The monthly Saturday classes will guide attendees through essential tips and techniques for growing the best and most bountiful gardens and other agriculture-related topics. Local gardening and horticultural professionals and experienced enthusiasts will lead each class covering planting and caring for fruit trees, lawn care, miniature gardens, native plants, growing vegetables and more.


Most Centennial Farm Garden Classes are free of charge and, due to limited space, online registration is requested for most classes. Registration and more details can be found at ocfair.com/centennialfarm (click on “Garden Classes” in the sidebar.)

Each class is on a Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-Noon and the current schedule for the Centennial Farm Garden Classes is:

• Sept. 7: Dahlias Above and Below the Ground
• Sept. 14: A Garden of the Future
• Oct. 5: Grow it NOW: Cool Season Vegetables
• Nov. 2: Urban Chickens Demystified
• Dec. 7: Make It, Take It, Christmas Wreath ($30 materials fee applies. Online pre-registration is required for this class.)

The Centennial Farm is an integral part of the OC Fair & Event Center’s mission to educate locals about Orange County’s rich agricultural heritage.. The four-acre working farm features beautiful gardens with constantly growing vegetables, herbs and fruit plus livestock and barns. Throughout the school year, the Farm welcomes thousands of local students on free school tours and is open to the general public free of charge outside of tour hours. During the Garden Classes, the Farm is open to the public however attendees are asked not to leave their children unattended in the Farm while attending a class.
